Subject: Math and Problem Solving
What will my child walk away with? A deep, confident understanding of mathematics as a creative and enjoyable discipline, developed through highly interactive instruction grounded in Paul Halmos’s principle that the only way to learn mathematics is to do mathematics. My research at York University connecting statistical modeling to real-world health applications, combined with coaching experience across the SAT, GRE, and GMAT quantitative sections, gives me a precise sense of what mathematical mastery actually looks like at every level.
What can families expect? A teacher who has been building his academic and professional path around making mathematics clear and accessible since Grade 12, and who brings over five years of teaching experience across junior high through university level to every Brain Power class. I emphasize the importance of cultivating critical thinking and logical reasoning over relying on instant answers, particularly in an era increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence.
What does class actually feel like? Interactive, intellectually honest, and genuinely encouraging. Students are expected to reason deeply, communicate their mathematical ideas clearly, practice essential skills, and develop the confidence to approach new problems independently. I believe mathematics and statistics are inherently creative and enjoyable, and my goal is to share that excitement with every student I teach.
How do you challenge a curious mind? I give students problems that connect mathematical reasoning to genuine real-world questions — disease, health, data, decision-making — because that connection reveals the creative dimension of mathematical thinking that standard curriculum often obscures. A curious student who is already technically capable benefits most from learning to see mathematics as a tool for investigating questions that actually matter.
Credentials and Experience Ph.D. candidate in Statistics, York University (research connecting statistical modeling to microbiome data and its associations with obesity, IBD, and asthma). M.Sc. in Mathematics and Statistics, Indian Institute of Technology Tirupati. Over five years of teaching experience across junior high through university level. Quantitative coaching experience for SAT, GRE, and GMAT. Teaching inspiration dating to Grade 12 with a consistent focus on making mathematics clear and accessible.
Why Saurabh? Why Brain Power?
I became a statistician because I found that mathematics is one of the most powerful tools available for understanding the world, and I became a teacher because I wanted students to have that same experience of discovery. Brain Power’s emphasis on genuine curiosity, critical thinking, and deep understanding over surface-level performance is exactly the standard I have always worked toward.
