Meshell Walter
B.S. (Psychology and Mathematics Minor), M.S. (Curriculum & Instruction)
What will my child walk away with? Real mathematical reasoning, not just memorized steps. My scholars will be able to explain their thinking out loud and defend how they got to an answer, which is the skill that actually sticks.
What can families expect? Instruction that is rigorous, intentional, and responsive to what your child actually demonstrates they understand. I use data to find the precise point where learning broke down, then act on it immediately.
What does class actually feel like? High expectation and highly verbal. Scholars are expected to talk about their math, not just complete it, because clear communication is part of how I know they’ve truly understood a concept.
How do you challenge a curious mind? I push scholars past the first correct answer and ask them to justify it, generalize it, or find a second way to get there. Curious scholars light up when a problem has more than one path to the solution.
Credentials and Experience I hold a BS in Psychology with a Mathematics minor and an MS in Curriculum & Instruction. As a Chicago educator, I have authored Algebra I curriculum implemented across 17 schools and coached teachers in lesson planning, standards alignment, and student discourse. My work as a classroom teacher and instructional coach has centered on using data to move scholars forward with precision.
Why Meshell? Why Brain Power?
I’ve spent my career proving that scholars in every community deserve instruction that combines high expectations with a genuine belief in their intellectual capacity. That conviction, that strong teaching changes outcomes, is exactly what I bring into every Brain Power math class.
