What will my child walk away with?  A genuine understanding of how English actually works underneath the rules they’re taught to memorize. My students leave reading and writing with more precision because they understand the structure behind the sentence.

What can families expect?  A teacher who treats language as a living system worth investigating together. I bring my linguistics research directly into how I explain grammar, structure, and meaning, so lessons feel like discovery rather than drills.

What does class actually feel like?  Curious and pattern-focused. I love the moment a student notices that something in English they assumed was random actually follows a rule, because that’s exactly the kind of noticing that makes better readers and writers.

How do you challenge a curious mind?  I bring students into questions linguists are still actively researching, including my own current work on heritage language acquisition. Bright students respond well to knowing that language study is not a closed book.

Credentials and Experience  I hold an Honours BA in English Language Teaching from Middle East Technical University, a first MA in Linguistics from Hacettepe University, a second MA in Linguistics, and a TESOL certificate from York University. I am currently a PhD candidate in Linguistics at York University.I have served as a Teaching Assistant at York and as a Language Facilitator at the ESL Open Learning Centre, and taught English from high school through university level in Türkiye for four years.
