What will my child walk away with? A genuine love of learning and the participatory, critical thinking skills to sustain it. I have been teaching since 2005 across philosophy, English, and art history, and my real passion has always been the same: helping students become avid, lifelong learners who take what they discovered in the classroom into the world.

What can families expect? An enthusiastic teacher who uses participatory learning strategies to keep students genuinely engaged with the material. I am currently pursuing a second research-intensive Ph.D. in Science and Technology Studies because I love learning enough to keep doing it formally — and students notice that energy.

What does class actually feel like? Lively, participatory, and intellectually contagious. I believe enthusiasm for ideas is something a teacher can model and students can catch, and I teach with that in mind. Students who arrive unsure whether they care about philosophy or language arts often leave surprised by how much they do.

How do you challenge a curious mind? I use participatory learning strategies that require students to actively grapple with ideas rather than receive them. A curious student who is used to absorbing information quickly needs to be placed in situations that require genuine deliberation and original thinking, and I design specifically for that.
