What will my child walk away with? A deeper appreciation for the written word, stronger critical and creative thinking, and communication skills that travel across every context. My scholarly focus on modernist literature and the First World War gives me a particular sensitivity to how language carries weight, and I bring that sensitivity into every class.

What can families expect? A globally experienced teacher with 15 years of teaching across English language arts, academic writing, public speaking, and communications. Having lived in Japan for four years, I bring an international perspective to literary study that students consistently find enriching.

What does class actually feel like? Engaged and exploratory. I believe literature is a gateway to experiences beyond a student’s immediate world, and I teach it that way — as something that opens doors rather than satisfies requirements. Students who arrive skeptical often leave genuinely interested.

How do you challenge a curious mind? I give students access to the scholarly conversation around a text, not just the text itself. Understanding what critics and researchers have argued, and why they disagree, gives a curious student a much richer set of tools for developing their own position.
