Subject: Math and Problem Solving

What will my child walk away with? A deep, confident understanding of mathematical and quantitative reasoning developed through instruction from someone who has supervised 30 Master of Management Accounting dissertations, published 15 peer-reviewed journal articles in accounting and mathematics education, and authored two textbooks. My interdisciplinary approach embraces the everyday experiences of students and addresses their genuine concerns rather than treating mathematics as an abstract exercise.

What can families expect? A teacher with over 27 years of experience at institutions including Sheridan College, Yorkville University, University Canada West, and Cape Peninsula University of Technology, who has also served as Director of School and Head of Department for seven years. That breadth of institutional leadership experience gives me a clear, systematic understanding of what excellent mathematics instruction looks like at every level.

What does class actually feel like? Engaging, accessible, and full of genuine intellectual energy. I am passionate about making learning simple, engaging, and fun through an interdisciplinary approach that connects mathematical ideas to the real world. Students who arrive thinking mathematics is disconnected from their lives consistently leave with a different understanding.

How do you challenge a curious mind? I give students problems that require them to apply quantitative reasoning to real-world situations where the stakes and the context are genuine, not hypothetical. A curious student who is already technically capable benefits most from learning to think about what the mathematics means in practice, and my background in accounting and business provides an unusually rich source of exactly those problems.
