What will my child walk away with? A deeper confidence in their own creative voice and the technical skills to develop it. My M.F.A. focused on fiction and playwriting, and I bring that craft-level attention to student writing — the difference between a story that works and one that almost works is specific, teachable, and worth understanding.

What can families expect? A classroom where students feel genuinely safe to share ideas, take risks on the page, and discover what they actually want to say. I believe enthusiasm for writing is not a personality trait — it is something a good teacher can cultivate.

What does class actually feel like? Warm, creative, and energizing. I am a working writer, which means I bring real-world creative practice into the room alongside literary craft. Students see writing as something that happens in the world, not just on assignments.

How do you challenge a curious mind? I push students toward specificity. Vague writing is almost always a sign of vague thinking, and the revision process — looking hard at what you actually said versus what you meant — is where the most interesting intellectual work happens.
