Subject: Language Arts
What will my child walk away with? Real independence as a learner, along with the ability to apply what they read to situations well beyond the classroom. My students leave with clear objectives met and a genuine sense of ownership over their own progress.
What can families expect? Structured, purposeful lessons with clear goals and ongoing formative assessment. I differentiate instruction so every learner can genuinely access and succeed with the material, not just keep pace with it.
What does class actually feel like? Facilitative and collaborative. Students take an active role in problem-solving and discussion rather than simply receiving information, with strategies designed to maximize real engagement.
How do you challenge a curious mind? I draw on diverse cultural perspectives so curious students see themselves and the wider world reflected in what they study, then push them toward the kind of critical thinking and autonomy that lasts.
Credentials and Experience I hold a BA in English Literature from York University, an MA in Curriculum Design and Development from Murdoch University, TESL 1 and 2 certifications from Seneca College, and I am currently completing my Doctorate of Education at Western University. Over more than 15 years, I have taught English, designed curriculum, and trained educators across Canada, the Middle East, and Africa.
Why Katherine? Why Brain Power?
My background in curriculum design and psychology means I approach every lesson with a real understanding of how students learn and what can get in their way. Brain Power students get an instructor who is deeply committed to developing independent thinkers and who genuinely values what she learns from them in return.
