Shan Hewakolambage
BSc in Mechatronics Engineering, BBA in Project Management (cand.), Dip. IT
Subject: Math and Problem Solving / STEM
What will my child walk away with? A strong mathematical foundation and the genuine confidence that comes from instruction built around breaking complex concepts into simple, relatable ideas. My B.Sc. in Mechatronics Engineering combined with a BBA in Project Management gives me an unusually practical understanding of how mathematical and engineering thinking operate in the real world.
What can families expect? A teacher whose interactive, student-centered approach emphasizes critical thinking and problem-solving strategies that make learning both engaging and meaningful. Whether building a strong foundation in math or exploring real-world STEM applications, I design every class around each student’s unique learning needs rather than a single standard approach.
What does class actually feel like? Hands-on, practical, and genuinely inspiring. I work on robotics projects and AI development outside the classroom, which means the connections I draw between mathematical concepts and real-world technology are not hypothetical — they are things I am actively working on. Students find that authenticity engaging in a way that textbook examples rarely achieve.
How do you challenge a curious mind? I give students real engineering and technology problems that require genuine mathematical reasoning to solve, because that context reveals the creative dimension of mathematical thinking that standard curriculum often obscures. A curious student who is already technically capable benefits most from understanding what their skills make possible when applied to something real.
Credentials and Experience BBA in Project Management, Yorkville University. B.Sc. in Mechatronics Engineering, General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University, Sri Lanka. Diploma in IT. Teaching approach built around engineering and technology foundations. Active practitioner in robotics and AI development. Specialization in breaking complex concepts into accessible, confidence-building instruction.
Why Shan? Why Brain Power?
Engineering taught me that the ability to break a complex problem into manageable parts is the most valuable skill a person can develop, and I teach mathematics because that skill starts here. Brain Power’s students are curious and capable enough to start applying it to real problems, and I am excited to help them do exactly that.
