Smita Chandra
B.A., B.Ed., M.A., OCT, IBEN Examiner & Programme Leader
What will my child walk away with? Sharper skills in constructing an argument and questioning a source, not just summarizing one. My students leave us able to write with evidence and to explain why they believe what they believe.
What can families expect? Internationally minded, inquiry-based instruction from a teacher who has evaluated curriculum for the IB across Canada and the United States. I hold every student to the same rigorous standard I use as an IB examiner.
What does class actually feel like? Structured around genuine inquiry. Students are asked to investigate a question rather than receive an answer, and we spend real time on how they know what they know.
How do you challenge a curious mind? I bring Theory of Knowledge style questioning into Language Arts, asking students to examine their own assumptions about a text before they analyze it. Bright students find real energy in interrogating their own thinking.
Credentials and Experience I hold a BA in English, History, and Economics, a BEd specializing in History and English, and an MA in Composite History from Lucknow University, along with the UGC-NET Lectureship in History. I am an Ontario Certified Teacher who has served as Head of Department, IBEN Examiner for History and Extended Essay, and Programme Leader evaluating IB schools across Canada and the United States. I am also a Microsoft Innovative Educator and hold a GenAI Microcredential in Prompt Engineering.
Why Smita? Why Brain Power?
My career has been built on the belief that inquiry, evidence, and academic integrity produce genuinely globally minded thinkers, not just good test takers. I bring that same standard to every Brain Power classroom, because bright students deserve to be challenged to think, not just to remember.
