Subject: Math and Problem Solving

What will my child walk away with? The ability to apply mathematical thinking to real problems — not just execute procedures in isolation. My M.Eng. in Industrial Engineering from Dalhousie University gave me deep expertise in mathematical modeling, statistics, and optimization, and I bring that applied perspective into every class I teach.

What can families expect? A teacher who encourages active participation, provides personalized feedback, and makes sure every student feels genuinely motivated and confident in their mathematical abilities. My commitment to fostering a supportive learning environment is not separate from my commitment to rigor — the two go together.

What does class actually feel like? Engaging, practical, and student-centered. I develop teaching methods that emphasize problem solving, critical thinking, and real-world application, because I know from engineering experience that mathematics is most compelling when it is connected to something that actually matters.

How do you challenge a curious mind? I give students problems that sit at the intersection of mathematical abstraction and practical application, because that is where the most interesting thinking happens. A curious student who moves quickly through standard material needs to encounter the kind of open-ended, context-rich challenges that reveal what mathematical reasoning actually makes possible.
