Math & Problem Solving

Math Level A

Fractions, percentages, and the start of serious problem solving.

Grade 4, Grade 5, Grade 6

What Happens in Every Class

Concept Instruction

Each class opens with a new concept introduced through worked examples and guided discussion. Students build understanding of fractions, percentages, and operations before applying them independently.

Applied Problem Solving

Multi-step word problems and real-world scenarios require students to identify the right approach, not just execute a procedure. Our 4-step problem-solving method is used throughout.

Logic and Strategy Challenges

Every class includes a standalone logic challenge. Students encounter context-based logic puzzles, cross-logic problems, and systematic list-making, each is designed to build reasoning that transfers across subjects.

Homework Review and Discussion

Solutions are not simply verified. Students explain their approach, errors are discussed as a class, and instructors give specific feedback. Understanding why something went wrong matters as much as getting it right.

Curriculum Spotlight

The Envelope Method

In lesson 15, we introduce algebraic reasoning using the envelope technique. In this method, students treat unknown quantities as if they are hidden inside envelopes. Instead of introducing variables right away, each envelope represents a value they do not yet know—but can reason about. For example, if two envelopes together total 20, students understand that each envelope must hold 10.

There is no formal algebra yet. But the thinking is the same: students assign meaning to unknowns, track how quantities relate, and work step by step toward a solution using tools like the “envelope” technique. They are not yet writing equations. But they are thinking in exactly the same way: representing unknowns and balancing relationships.

While students see them as fun logic puzzles, these exercises build a strong foundation for early algebra and problem-solving using variables.
