Mechanics of Writing is designed to introduce students to the essentials of English grammar and essay writing. Each class will consist of a grammar component and a writing component. During the course we will review the fundamentals of English grammar and punctuation, some different types of paragraph, the essay-writing process, and the structure of the five-paragraph essay. Once we have reviewed the fundamentals of the standard five-paragraph essay, we will transition to considering different genres of academic essays, such as persuasive, comparative, cause-effect, and narrative essays. We will also learn how to edit our essays and cite our sources.
